Hon. Claudine Schneider
Congresswoman 1980-1990 (R-RI); Author of the Global Warming Prevention Act (1988)

Claudine served in the U.S. Congress from 1980 to 1990. She has been a tireless leader on mitigating climate change since the 1980s when she authored the first and only Global Warming Prevention Act. It was revenue neutral and provided a roadmap to mitigating the impact of greenhouse gases. She also authored and passed into laws the first Appliance Efficiency Standards, The Least Cost Utility Planning Act, the Demand Side Management Act, plus many other initiatives to fund energy efficiency and renewable energy research for which she received numerous awards and recognitions.

Today, as an independent consultant, Claudine has continued to tirelessly champion remedies to climate change, particularly focusing on the business community. She has recruited many of the Fortune 500 Corporations to EPA’s Climate Leaders program. In addition, she works with the renewable energy communities, the socially responsible investment community, and the non-profit world, to advance solutions to climate change.

In the past, she has briefed Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on the climate issue. She also participated in a BBC feature film presentation with Prince Charles on global warming. In addition Claudine has written a chapter in Robert Redford’s GreenHouse Glasnost. She was also the only American selected to write a chapter for “The Planetary Interest” published by Oxford University Press.
