AbstractDr. Eric S. Kasischke
Professor of Biogeography, Department of Geography, and Director of Graduate Studies, University of Maryland
Dr. Kasischke received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1992, where he also received his B.S. (1974) and M.S. (1980) degrees. He spent his early career working for the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he conducted research on airborne and spaceborne remotely sensed data. His doctoral research focused on developing approaches to use imaging radar data to assess variations in forest biomass. Since the early 1990s, his research has focused on studying the impacts of fires on ecosystem processes and biogeochemical cycling in boreal forests. His specific focus is on how variations in the fire regime are interacting with the climate to drive changes in terrestrial carbon cycling, permafrost dynamics, and post-fire succession in this region.
